Tyler Perry’s new Netflix project, Straw, is already gaining attention following news of the cast which will include Taraji P. Henson, Sherri Shepherd, and Teyana Taylor. The project is written and will be directed by Perry.

The movie centers on a struggling single mother who experiences a string of bad luck that sends her into unanticipated situations that are out of her control.

The story logline reads, “She finds herself at the center of suspicion in a world that seems indifferent to her existence and becomes entangled in a situation she never imagined.”

A synopsis provided by the creators states that the female character is driven by desperation and finds herself at the focus of suspicion in a world that doesn’t appear to care about her.

This is one of the most recent movies in Perry’s multi-year first-look agreement with Netflix.

Previous Perry films available on Netflix are A Jazzman’s Blues and the successful Mea Culpa, which stars Kelly Rowland. The thriller, A Fall from Grace, the Madea franchise’s twelfth installment, and A Madea Homecoming are part of Perry’s works in recent times.

Tyler Perry, Angi Bones, and Tony Strickland will share producer credit on Spew.

Additionally, Tyler and Netflix are currently collaborating on TV shows and religiously themed movies.

His next Netflix projects include a period drama set during the Second World War titled The Six Triple Eight which captures the story of the only all-black, all-female battalion serving in the military overseas.

Oprah Winfrey and Kerry Washington will lead an ensemble cast for The Six Triple Eight.

In addition, Perry is writing, directing, and producing the 16-episode, hour-long drama series Beauty In Black, which was also recently revealed.
