American rapper Lil Nas X has announced that he will be releasing a new gospel song set for release on January 12, titled J CHRIST.

The new track’s cover image depicts the rapper as Jesus on a cross, with five spectators raising him off the ground. A second video shows him nailed to a gold cross, which then turns into a mechanical costume with a halo.

“My new single is dedicated to the man who had the greatest comeback of all time,” Lil Nas stated in his announcement.

The announcement comes after the rapper spent the weekend taunting his followers. In a TikTok tweet on Saturday (Jan. 6), the rapper announced that his new single will be released independently rather than through his longstanding label, Columbia Records.

Lil Nas claimed over a footage of him lip-synching to a famous TikTok sound that his label “gave me the choice of going independent to release my gospel music or staying with them,” adding in the comment that he would be “releasing my first gospel song next week independently.”

When Lil Nas X initially announced his Christian era, he took a break from trolling to respond to people who always find excuses to criticise his music.

“You guys perceive everything I do as a gimmick. When in reality, I’m just an artist expressing myself in various ways. Whether im a cowboy, gay, satanic, or now christian y’all find a problem! y’all don’t police nobody else art like mine. y’all hate me because im fun cute and petite,” he wrote at the time.
