Tiger Woods has made history in the TGL Prime Time Golf League which he co-founded with Rory McIlroy. The fifteen-time major champion Tiger Woods will lead the ownership group for the sixth and final team.

The league was announced on Tuesday. TGL, presented by SoFi, is a tech-infused golf league. Jupiter Links Golf Club will be owned by Woods’ TGR Ventures and David Blitzer, a senior executive at Blackstone Private Equity and co-managing partner of the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils.

In addition, Woods, a longtime resident of Jupiter, Florida, is the first player added to the four-man roster of Jupiter Links Golf Club.

“Having the opportunity to not only compete but also own a team to represent Jupiter is an exciting next chapter for me,” Woods said in a statement.

He added, “Through its use of technology, TGL is a modern twist of traditional golf and ultimately will make the sport I love more accessible, and I expect Jupiter Links GC to showcase the golf culture of my hometown as we compete against the best players in the world.”

Since withdrawing from the Masters in April after two rounds, Tiger Woods, 47, has not participated in any PGA Tour events. He had surgery on April 19 to treat post-traumatic arthritis in his right ankle, which was brought on by injuries he sustained in a car accident in February 2021.

A TGL release states that Blitzer is the first individual to own equity in five North American sports teams: the Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Devils, Joe Gibbs Racing, Cleveland Guardians, and Washington Commanders, of which he is co-owner. Blitzer founded Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment with Josh Harris, and he serves as co-chairman and managing partner of the team’s portfolio. Additionally, Blitzer owns shares in several soccer teams, both domestically and overseas.

Blitzer, who is also a shareholder in Jupiter Links, said, “I’m thrilled to partner with him to form Jupiter Links GC. Tiger Woods is one of the most influential and iconic athletes in the history of sports. The game of golf has a history of uniting people from all walks of life, and as a team and league, we have a lot of exciting things in store. Our team is well-positioned for long-term success by utilizing the skills and knowledge of the most accomplished and transcendent player in the game, as well as the power of innovation and technology.”

After the College Football Playoff National Championship on January 9, TGL’s 15-match season with 24 PGA Tour players will get underway.

The SoFi Center at Palm Beach State College in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a specially constructed domed venue with a massive simulator screen and a short-game complex, will serve as the site of all live prime-time ESPN or ESPN2 broadcasts as well as ESPN+ streaming.

Woods’ TGR Ventures portfolio includes TGR Design, TGR Foundation, Full Swing Golf, The Woods Jupiter restaurant, and T-Squared Social, in addition to his ownership of the TGL team and affiliation with TMRW Sports Group.
