Tears of The Sun, the 2023 album by Billionaire hitmaker Teni, has seen tremendous growth and patronage, barely a month after it landed on the market.

The 16-track compilation, released on Friday, November 17, 2023, has reached 55.8 million streams across all platforms, according to Nigerian creative agency WeTalkSound.

Featuring on platforms including Billboard and Rolling Stone, the album is also said to have appeared on music charts in over 30 countries.

The Afrobeats album contains immersive and upbeat renditions with titles like Banga, Control, Devil Dance Ft. Odumodublvck, Jalingo, Holy Matrimony, Jalingo, and others.

Tears of the Sun, described as an “enduring and seductive classic,” gathered some six million playbacks on Audiomack alone in the first few weeks after it premiered.

In November, Teniola Apata, popularly known as Teni, explained that the album tells her story of “rebirth, growth and perseverance.”

Before announcing the project, she dropped the single Malaika (a thanksgiving song) and spoke about her “diagnosis” of “a life-threatening throat infection” in July 2023 while recording the album.

“After different bouts of temporary voice loss, doctors said I had to undergo a major operation or risk permanent voice loss. God showed up in his infinite mercy and grace, even when enemies tried to take my voice,” the singer posted on her Facebook page sometime this year.

Successful completion of the project meant the energetic singer was looking forward to laurels for her handiwork, and the recent milestone attained could not have come at a better time, as the year fades off.

Teni has been on the music scene since 2016 with several recordings and awards under her belt, but became more prominent for her single titled Case released in 2018.

Her debut Extended Play (EP) titled Billionaire came in October 2019. She worked on other projects before releasing her Wondaland album in 2021.

In February 2019, she was featured on YouTube Music’s Trending Artist on the Rise. In June 2019, she released the single titled Power Rangers.
