Nigerian singer Teni has released her new studio album, Tears of the Sun after creating lots of suspense around the project.
The 16-track compilation, released on Friday, November 17, 2023, is described as an “enduring and seductive classic and has gained some good playbacks online.
Tears of the Sun has gathered some six million playbacks on Audiomack alone with some fans already recommending the album for the Grammys.
It contains immersive and upbeat Afrobeats renditions including Banga, Control, Devil Dance Ft. Odumodublvck, Jalingo, Holy Matrimony, Jalingo, and others.
Matrimony, for instance, is a pure Afrobeats-Amapiano-inspired interlude with a touch of the saxophone as Teni throws in short vocals.
Teni, originally known as, Teniola Apata, dropped the single Malaika off the Tears of the Sun album, and spoke about her “diagnosis” of “a life-threatening throat infection” in July 2023 while recording the album.
“After different bouts of temporary voice loss, doctors said I had to undergo a major operation or risk permanent voice loss,” she posted on her Facebook.
She described the single Malaika as her “song of thanksgiving and praise to God for his mercy and grace, saying God showed up in his “infinite mercy and grace,” even when “enemies” tried to take her voice.
Tears of The Sun album she says is her story of “rebirth, growth and perseverance,” and following the successful completion of the project, the energetic singer would be looking forward to the possible laurels her new handiwork may bring in the future.
Teni released her debut Extended Play (EP) Billionaire in October 2019. She worked on other projects before releasing her Wondaland album in 2021.
She has been on the music scene since 2016 with several recordings and awards under her belt but became more prominent for her single titled Case released in 2018.
In February 2019, she was featured on YouTube Music’s Trending Artist on the Rise. In June 2019, she released a new single titled Power Rangers.
