Notably, Harvard University, one of the world’s most prestigious institutions, and the University of Florida will kick off the spring semester with classes delving into the world of the 33-year-old singer, Billboard reported.

Harvard’s course on Taylor Swift

Harvard’s offering, titled “Taylor Swift and Her World,” will be helmed by Stephanie Burt from the English department.

The course promises a comprehensive exploration of various themes, including fan culture, celebrity dynamics, the journey from adolescence to adulthood, and the intricacies of appropriation.

Furthermore, students will engage with diverse literary perspectives, encompassing white texts, Southern texts, transatlantic texts, and queer subtexts.

The Harvard course description, available online, provides a glimpse into the academic journey awaiting students.

Participants will be guided through contemplations on topics ranging from illicit affairs and hoaxes to the complexities of “champagne problems” and the art of incomplete closure.

This course is designed to explore the broader landscape of musical storytelling, featuring the now billionaire Taylor Swift alongside other noteworthy female artists.

The University of Florida’s commitment to diversifying the narrative within the music industry aligns with the broader cultural shift towards inclusivity.
