In an exclusive interview with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden, the Amercian rapper revealed the heart-wrenching final conversation she had with her father, Robert Maraj, before his tragic death in a hit-and-run accident in February 2021.

The conversation, which occurred just hours before the accident, was a poignant moment between the two.

Nicki shared that her father, who had been eagerly waiting to visit her in California to help with her newborn son, called to express his excitement about the upcoming visit.

However, later that night, Nicki received the devastating news that her father had been involved in a hit-and-run accident and did not survive.

The interview, which premiered on YouTube, provided a rare and intimate insight into Nicki’s personal life and the profound impact of her father’s passing.

She also discussed how the experience influenced the opening track of her latest album, Pink Friday 2, where she pays tribute to her late father and shares her emotions about the loss.

What Happened to Nicki Minaj’s dad?

The rapper’s father lost his life in the tragic incident which occurred in the Mineola neighborhood of Nassau County, N.Y., on February 12, 2021.

The driver, Charles Polevich, was later arrested and charged in connection with the accident. In August 2022, Polevich pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to one year in jail, along with other penalties.
