Jay-Z explained that when they went for the sonograms during Beyoncé’s pregnancy, the doctors referred to their unborn child as a “blueberry” because of her small size. This endearing nickname stuck with them.

“It was like, look at the little blueberry!” Jay-Z reminisced. The couple found this term of endearment charming, and it grew on them as the months passed.

“For nine months, they were like, ‘look at the little blueberry.’ So it was just natural; we just took the ‘berry’ off and called her Blue,” Jay-Z continued, thus, the iconic name Blue Ivy was born.
