Afrobeats star Joeboy has spoken in what could be his first media interview, after being signed to a new record label.

The singer was previously under emPawa Africa, his first record label after he was discovered, but recently said he was taking up a new venture with ‘Young Legend’ Records.

Joeboy described his first recording deal as “the best ever” in his home country, but he was “naive” and not up to speed with many of the developments in the industry at the time.

“The first deal, I did not have much prior knowledge about how the industry was. I’d say I was naive. The deal was good, I had the best deal in Afrobeats history in Nigeria with a label.

“Before I signed the first deal, I’d say I wasn’t confident at that point in time. It was like a new world to me, so I was just still learning and learning,” he stated in an interview.

The Baby crooner, however, said he had become more enlightened than he was years ago.

“Right now, there is so much that I know that a lot of people at my level don’t know. I am grateful that I got to know these things, and the way I got to find out these things was through very challenging moments. That’s why I feel like challenging moments are very important…Either they destroy you or help you become a bigger person,” he added.

Despite previous challenges, the 26-year-old said he did not give up due to his strong passion for music which will never fade away.

“Before the fame, money, attention, and everything, when I was writing and singing songs, I was doing it for the love and that love will never go away,” he stated.

Last week, the talented singer released his first single under his new ‘Young Legend’ record label, which is a partnership with Warner Music Africa.

The trending tune titled Osadebe is about self-reflection and positive affirmations, as the singer highlights individuality and the determination to go solo and break new ground in the music industry.

Osadebe has a touch of Amapiano rhythm and has gained some positive reviews. Prior to this new single, he released the song Surviving early in January.

The singer, known officially as Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus, has promised “back–to–back bangers” this year. Sometime in October last year, he collaborated with DJ Neptune, releasing a video for a love song titled MuMu.
