Chris Rock has added his name to the list of actors who have declined the offer to host the Golden Globes.

This has made the search for a host for the 2024 Golden Globe Awards nominees more intense, as speculation about who will host the event keeps getting suspenseful.

Reports online claim that in addition to Chris Rock, at least four other A-list comedians have declined offers to host the January award ceremony. These celebrities include Ali Wonga and the trio of Will Arnett, Sean Hayes, and Jason Bateman.

Rock has already hosted the Golden Globes twice. However, since getting slapped by Will Smith at the 2022 Academy Awards, he hasn’t gone to any significant award ceremonies.

Actress and comedian Ali Wong also reportedly turned down offers to host the show, despite the multiple nominations her Netflix miniseries Beef, received.

The Smartless podcast trio Will Arnett, Sean Hayes, and Jason Bateman also turned down an offer to host the show together, which would’ve been the first time three people co-hosted the show since Louis Gossett Jr., Leslie Nielsen, and Jane Seymour co-helmed the show in 1993.

Although Chris’s representative has not explained the choice, word of it spreads as social media continues to react to stories about Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith’s marriage.

But Chris Rock could still go to the ceremony because he was nominated for Best Stand-Up Comedian on Television for his Netflix special Selective Outrage.

It’s possible that Rock declined the job because of the infamous Oscar slap that’s still being discussed. Most recently, Jada Pinkett Smith called the slap a “holy slap” and said it kept her marriage to Will Smith intact.

“When the chips fall where they may, that’s when you realize who you really are,” she said. It took that slap for me to realize that I would never leave Will’s side, after all those years of trying to decide if I would or would not. If that hadn’t happened, who knows where our relationship would be now?”

Even though the slap made Will and Jada closer, Chris Rock has since stopped going to award shows as a result.
