Donald Glover, better known by the stage name Childish Gambino, hasn’t released any new rap songs in a while, however, his recent attention to his acting career is massive, despite rap still being very important to him.

When Maya Erskine, Childish Gambino’s co-star in Mr. & Mrs. Smith, asked him to name the best rapper of all time, Glover gave an unexpected and insightful response – The rapper-turned-actor responded: “Kanye West”.

Kanye is still regarded by Childish Gambino as the best rapper of all time, despite Ye’s recent rants and actions casting doubt on that claim.

On the episode of Complex’s GOAT Talk, which aired on Tuesday (February 6), Donald Glover discussed his favorites and least favorites in several categories with Maya Erskine.

When asked who his favorite rapper was, the rapper responded without even flinching.

“To me? Kanye. To me,” he clarified. “I know that’s controversial, but I feel like we would not have any of the rappers we have now without him. That’s just for me.”

Though Childish Gambino’s favorite rapper is Kanye West, many fans rather view the This Is America crooner as their goat rapper.

Nevertheless, Childish Gambino also revealed recently when asked what was next for him, he said, “Another album,” but he didn’t elaborate. When asked when it would be available, he replied, “Soon,” and he made references to something that would be released on the tenth anniversary of his sophomore album, Because of the Internet, earlier that same month.

In an interview last year with Complex, Childish Gambino spoke about the possibility of releasing new music while also noting that he was trying harder not to be cryptic.

“I feel like it’ll be clear sooner rather than later,” he said when asked about the prospect of new material dropping soon. “It’d be better for people to just tune in, I suppose.

“But I’m trying harder to not be cryptic. Tyler [the creator] is always like, ‘You’re so cryptic.’ But I’m like, ‘I’m not.’ I just like suspense, I guess. I think it makes stuff better. But that’s just me”.
