Black Shefif’s debut album, The Villain I Never Was released in 2022 has reached 1 billion streams across four streaming platforms. His followers have celebrated this achievement and encouraged him to keep up the spirit.

The breakdown shows that the album has 125 million streams on Spotify, 341 million streams on Boomplay, 102 million on YouTube, and 441 million streams on Audiomack, barely 18 months after it was announced.

The Villain I Never Was has songs like Oil in My Head, Kweku The Traveller, Oh Paradise, 45, Toxic Love City, 2nd Sermon (Remix) ft Burna Boy, Soja among others.

Black Sherif’s recent project was a collaboration with British Singer Mabel, on the single Zero, which was ranked among the top 10 releases on the Afrobeats Chart in the United Kingdom.

The low-tempo composition encourages listeners to ignore drama from people and heal from any kind of trauma.  Zero premiered on BBC Radio 1 in London, and was described by Black Sherif as an “art” made with Mabel at their “most vulnerable state.”

Prior to this, the singer had premiered January 9th, a single to commemorate his 22nd birthday, which also made its debut on the billboard Afrobeats Chart, weeks after it was released.

After his debut album in 2022, Black Sherif recorded the Extended Play (EP) titled Take Care of Yourself, which had two tracks: Yaya and Simmer Down.

In October 2023, he became the second Ghanaian, after Sarkodie, to win the BET Hip Hop Award for ‘Best International Flow at the 2023 Hip Hop Awards hosted in Atlanta, USA.

The talented act is celebrated for his compositions which often came with punchy lyrics and a distinct rap style. Songs like Oh No, and Simmer Down which came after his debut album have been commended by music enthusiasts as he merges storytelling and impactful lyrics.

Born Mohammed Ismail Sherif, the First Sermon crooner, as usual, blends his native language and English on his records. He again adopts an energetic flow on a variety of tunes while reflecting on a myriad of themes in his compositions.

The single Oh No, for instance, entered the US Afrobeats Billboard Chart shortly and reached No. 41 on the chart as of November 24, 2023. He described Oh No, as a reaffirmation of his “destiny and calling.”
