Muni Long, a singer-songwriter well-known in the music business even before her 2023 single Made for Me went viral and her song Hrs & Hours became popular has opened up about California King Bed by Rihanna – one of her best-known writings.

In a recent interview with Complex, the singer and songwriter provided additional background on the creation of Rihanna’s 2010 hit song.

Long told Jordan Rose that she was in Miami at the We The Best studio, collaborating with Jermaine Jackson of The Runners on the song.

At the time, she was said to be looking through furniture online because she planned to move to Los Angeles when Jackson interrupted her to inquire about the song’s progress.

She stated, “I didn’t have anything because I had been messing around, and I looked at my computer. I was like, ‘Oh, I got a title.’ I said, ‘California King Bed,’ and he said, ‘OK,’ and then he left. So I was like, ‘Oh, now I have to write that.’”

“I wrote the song in, like, 10 minutes. I told myself to speed up so I could finish this quickly and return to searching for my furniture. They were initially attempting to pitch it to Kelly Clarkson,” Muni went on.

However, that is not what transpired. Rihanna’s publisher disclosed a few months later that she would be receiving the song, and she made it into a hit.

“I was ecstatic. She recorded the song while on tour, and the rest is history, according to Long.

” You wouldn’t think she would act in such a manner. That had a profound effect on how my creative career developed. I did collaborate with her in the studio numerous times after that,” Long concluded.
