Weeks after his first record in the year 2024, Asake is out with an exciting video for the trendy single Only Me.

The production by renowned Nigerian director, TG Omori, is of top quality, and rich in props and costumes, but aspects of the video seem to bother some religious people.

It has accumulated nearly one million views in barely 24 hours. A part of the catchy visuals shows Asake splashing currency notes from a vault as his singers and dancers tag along.

He is again seen in another frame depicting the Holy Eucharist, which some critics considered inappropriate and ‘disrespectful’ to their faith. Many fans have praised the video for its artistry and entertainment value.

“I love the way you are showing all the performance inside Africa, our advancement, our culture, our heritage…Because not everyone out there knows what it’s really like here. Keep on, Asake,” an admirer wrote.

Another listener added: “Asake’s sense of fashion is breathtaking. If not music, it definitely would have been fashion, but thank God he chose music to bless our ears and eyes at the same time and uplift our souls with both. Plenty of love to Ololade Mr. Money.”

Only Me was released early in January this year to coincide with Asake’s 29th birthday. The Amapiano rhythm is described as one that “takes the listeners on a journey of love, triumph, and self-discovery,” as the singer projects his uniqueness with his charisma and distinctive vocals.

It has been one of the top tracks on Apple Music chart in Nigeria during the first week of release and has so far generated 11 million streams on Audiomack alone.

Asake, also known as ‘Mr Money With The Vibe’ is set to release his third studio album, Now to finish in mid-2024. In January, the singer had crossed hit 900 million streams on Spotify, with his Work of Art album also reaching over 600 million streams on Audiomack.

He was one of the unsuccessful African nominees at the 2024 Grammys. The singer’s rise from a budding artiste to a global sensation has been described as inspiring, as he continues to break new ground in the industry.

Lonely at the Top, the single off His Work of Art project, was among former US President Barack Obama’s 2023 playlist.
