Renowned Hollywood actor Will Smith has been billed to play the lead role in an upcoming action film called Sugar Bandits centred around an Iraq War veteran.

Chuck Hogan wrote the film, which is based on his novel Devils in Exile. Hogan has also worked on several movies, like The Town and The Strain.

In Sugar Bandits, the main character joins forces with other veterans to target narcotics trafficking in Boston. The movie was initially announced in 2013.

Will Smith and Jon Mone produced the movie Sugar Bandits through Westbrook Studios, with Ryan Shimazaki having oversight. Stuart Ford will produce for AGC Studios, while Richard Abate will produce for 3 Arts Entertainment.

Smith’s most recent significant picture was Antoine Fuqua’s Emancipation in 2022, which sold to Apple TV+ at Cannes for a market record of $120 million. Before that, there was 2021’s Oscar-winning film King Richard, which was based on the father and coach of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams.

Recently,  Will Smith shared a touching video on social media about his first son Trey Smith.

Sharing the video on Instagram, the Men in Black star said: “It has not always been like this between Trey & I. We STRUGGLED FOR YEARS after my Divorce from his Mother. He felt betrayed & abandoned. It is a Wild Blessing to recover & restore a Loving Relationship with My Beautiful Son!”

Will Smith divorced Trey’s mother, Sheree Zampino, in 1995 before settling down with Jada Pinkett Smith in 1997.

Will Smith disclosed in the video that “we were hanging at the F1. And he just hit me with the […] ‘You know what dad? I just realized […] you’re not just my dad […] I’m pretty sure you’re my best friend’”. Smith continued, exhaling and then saying “Yeah man. Prolly. Prolly.”
