Tyla’s debut album arrived last Friday and has already reached the No. 1 spot on iTunes in the United States. The project has also crossed over seven million streams on the international streaming platform, Spotify.

According to monitoring outlet, WeTalkSound, Tyla has now attained 30.1 million monthly listeners on Spotify, beating Afrobeats Prince, Rema, who had held the top spot for the past 18 months.

This record somewhat gives the South African talent some leverage, as she doesn’t seem to rest on her laurels after winning her first Grammy award in February this year.

The self-titled album Tyla premiered on Friday, March 22, 2024, with several guest features, including Tems, and continues to attract positive reviews from fans across platforms.

With a total of 14 tracks, the recording has fresh sounds and some previously released singles. The tracklist includes collaborations with artists like Travis Scott, Kelvin Momo, Tems, Gunna, Skillibeng and Becky G.

Tems appears on track five, titled No.1. Other songs on the list include her smash hit Water, Truth or Dare, Breathe Me, Butterflies, On & On, Jump, Art, On My Body, Priorities, To Last, Safer, and Water (Remix) ft Travis Scott.

It would be recalled that Tyla announced plans for her debut album after receiving a nomination for Best African Act at the 2024 Grammys.

She became the youngest African to have ever won the award, proclaiming that she had always been an advocate for African music.

“I love African music…and it’s the music I make, it’s the music I listen to all the time, and I believed in it for so long, so I am happy it is getting recognition. People are loving it, and it’s an amazing time,” the Water hitmaker stated while picking up her award.

Since then, the young singer has continued to prove that she did not step into the industry only to become a “one-hit wonder.”

The irresistible style of her world-class Water attracted American rapper and singer, Travis Scott to a remix version, released on November 17, 2023.

The 22-year-old had announced a tour after her album was ready but had since postponed the plans. ‘The Tyla Tour’, included 34 dates throughout Europe and North America, and was originally scheduled to start March 21, 2024, but she is yet to announce the new dates.
