Too Good at Goodbyes, the 2017 single by English singer Sam Smith, has now exceeded two billion streams on Spotify, according to independent monitoring outlet Spotify Data.

The song is said to be Sam Smith’s second song to reach the milestone. The official YouTube video for the song released six years ago has also crossed 1.6 billion views as of March 28, 2024.

Too Good at Goodbyes was released on September 8, 2017, through Capitol Records. It was the lead single on Sam Smith’s second studio album, titled The Thrill of It All.

The song recorded commercial success, reaching number one in the UK and number four on the Billboard Hot 100. In addition to platinum and gold certifications in Brazil, Canada, and Germany, the song also received massive endorsements in Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, and other countries.

Reaching an audience of 35 million in radio airplay, Too Good at Goodbyes became Smith’s highest debut and his second song to top the Digital Songs chart after Stay with Me in 2014.

Despite identifying as non-binary, Sam Smith has made significant progress in his musical career. His debut studio album, In the Lonely Hour, was released in May 2014 through Capitol Records UK.

His third single, Stay with Me, reached number one in the UK and number two on the US Billboard Hot 100, while subsequent singles I’m Not the Only One and Like I Can also reached the top ten in the UK.

Sam Smith has received much recognition, including five Grammy Awards, three Brit Awards, three Billboard Music Awards, and an American Music Award, as well as a Golden Globe and an Academy Award.

On August 25, 2022, he collaborated with German singer Kim Petras on a song titled Unholy on his fourth studio album Gloria. In April 2023, Smith embarked on the ‘Gloria World Tour’ to promote the album.

The song Unholy appeared in the top charts and made Sam Smith and Petras the first openly transgender musicians to release a song that reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In July 2023, Smith and Scottish DJ Calvin Harris collaborated for the second time and released a song titled Desire on 28 July 2023 with Sony Music.
