Taylor Swift‘s much-anticipated album called The Tortured Poets Department arrived on Thursday, April 19, 2024, to the amusement of a lot of her followers.

A day before the release, the singer dropped a single titled Fortnight featuring one of Taylor’s favourite rappers, Post Malone. A video for the single has since been made public, with the Anti-hero singer expressing lots of compliments to her counterpart.

“I’ve been such a huge fan of Post because of the writer he is, his musical experimentation and those melodies he creates that just stick in your head forever…”I got to witness that magic come to life firsthand when we worked together on Fortnight,” Taylor Swift wrote on Instagram.

Fans are, however, surprised that the album has more than the 16 tracks originally announced. The album is more or less a two-in-one compilation with about 31 songs.

The project is described by Taylor as “an anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time.”

She said the experiences documented in the form of lyrics on the album were “both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure.”

“This period of the author’s life is now over; the chapter is closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted.

“This writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page. Once we have told our saddest story, we can be free of it… And then all that’s left behind is the tortured poetry,” Taylor wrote on her X (formally Twitter on Friday).

The album is Taylor Swift’s 11th studio album and is currently available in digital and physical formats. It will be recalled that the celebrated singer announced the release of the album when she picked up her award at the 66th Grammys.

Apart from the bonus track on the album titled The Manuscript, other songs include Down Bad, So Long, London, But Daddy I Love Him, Fresh Out the Slammer, Guilty as Sin, and many others.

Taylor Swift has been on an upward trajectory, with many of her songs making the Billboard Hot 100. Last year, she was the biggest female winner at the Billboard Music Awards and was also named Spotify’s Top Global Artist in 2023.
