Nigerian music star, Tems, is making incredible waves on the international stage with her latest single, Me & U.

The song, released on October 5, debuted at number 6 on the prestigious Billboard World Digital Sales Charts.

This impressive feat not only solidifies Tems’ position as a global musical force but also highlights the growing influence of African artistes in the world of music.

Tems’ Me & U is impressive

Tems, whose real name is Temilade Openiyi, describes Me & U as a song that delves into the depths of self-discovery. It fosters a genuine connection with the divine, and achieving a profound understanding of oneself.

The song’s soulful lyrics and captivating melody have resonated with audiences worldwide, catapulting it to the upper tier of the Billboard charts.

Tems is a rising star

Tems, a rising star in the Nigerian music scene, has become a force to be reckoned with since her breakout single, “Mr. Rebel,” in 2018. Her unique blend of R&B and Afrobeats has gained her a loyal fanbase both at home and abroad.

She gained even more recognition with her standout appearance on Wizkid’s hit album, Made in Lagos. Her vocals on the track Essence became a global sensation. The song became even bigger when Justin Bieber featured on the remix.

Tyla’s Water over Selena Gomez’s Calm Down on Billboard chart

Tems impressive debut comes after the long-standing No.1 song on Billboard US Afrobeats chart, Calm Down by Rema and US star Selena Gomez got overthrown.

Fast-rising song, Water by burgeoning South African singer and dancer, Tyla, took pole position on the coveted chart.

Calm Down, for months on end, was the most streamed Afrobeats song and went on to set a record for being the most streamed Afrobeats song in history.

Burna Boy and Fireboy DML’s songs among the Most Performed Works

Meanwhile, two of Afrobeats’ most acclaimed stars, Burna Boy and Fireboy DML, were named among the winners at the 2023 BMI London Awards.

At the awards held on October 3, the Nigerian stars won the ‘Most Performed Work of the Year’ awards presented to over 20 songs.

Burna Boy’s Last Last, the first single from his sixth studio album, Love, Damini, won him the award. Released in May 2022, the song samples Toni Braxton’s 2000 single He Wasn’t Man Enough.

For Fireboy, it was his Peru remix with English singer Ed Sheeran that did the trick for him. Released on December 21, 2021, the song blew up to become a monstrous hit.
