Rising Afrobeats talent Michael Adebayo Olayinka, known on stage as Ruger, has reportedly parted ways with his record label after being hooked on for nearly three years.

He had since announced his label, known as Blown Boy Entertainment, but did not provide reasons for leaving his first love, Jozing World Records.

Ruger has several singles and collaborations to his credit, with the last projects titled Girlfriend and Asiwaju, which have so far recorded combined streaming figures of nearly 90,000 on Audiomack alone.

The Nigerian Afrobeats musician and songwriter rose to fame with the song Bounce, and later signed a record deal in 2021 with Jonzing World.

In 2021, he released his debut EP, Pandemic. He again released the song “One Shirt” with Rema in January 2021. His first song is said to have recorded seventy million views in three days after it premiered.

In November 2021, his second album titled The Second Wave arrived. Another album titled Ru The World dropped in September 2023.

Bounce from his Pandemic album, was ranked number 39 on the Top 50 chart in Nigeria. The song again appeared at number 20 on Nigeria’s Turntable End of the Year chart, and number 2 on the Apple Music top Afrobeats songs.

His other compositions include Dior, which was the lead singer on his Second Wave album. The song debuted at number 32 on the Top 50 chart and number 15 on the UK Afrobeats Singles Chart.

In February 2023, the young singer was named Best New Artiste at the Soundcity MVP Awards, held in Lagos, Nigeria.

He also has several nominations including the African Muzik Magazine Awards(AFRIMA) nomination for Best New Comer in 2021, as well as the AFRIMA nomination for Best Artiste, and Most Promising African Artiste of the Year.
