Magic Johnson, born Earvin Johnson Jr, has made it clear that Beyoncé is his top pick for the greatest female entertainer ever.

The NBA legend revealed this on Friday, March 29, shortly after Beyoncé’s latest album, Cowboy Carter, was released.

Johnson shared a photograph taken with Beyoncé a few years ago, expressing his admiration for her excellence and legacy. He acknowledged Beyoncé as a living icon, especially as the world was tuning in to listen to her new album.

“You are truly a multifaceted force, with dominating presences as a singer, songwriter, director, actress, record producer, and entrepreneur! With over 160 million records sold, countless awards won (including a historical 32 Grammys), featured roles in eight movies, two fashion lines, and now a new hair care line..it’s impossible to argue that your influence on culture is irreplaceable.

“You are women’s history! Just like I say Michael Jackson is the greatest male entertainer of all time, you are the greatest female entertainer of all time. I’m looking forward to seeing how you bring more representation into the country genre and continue to use your platform to uplift and amplify the Black voice. 💐,” he said.

Magic Johnson’s praise for Beyoncé stirs G.O.A.T. debate

While he only sought to express his admiration for Beyoncé, Magic Johnson’s post triggered a big debate about who should be the greatest of all time (G.O.A.T) in terms of female entertainment.

For many who commented, Queen Bey was still not up there yet as the G.O.A.T. They threw in names like Whitney Houston, Maria Carey, and Celine Dion, among others.

just.antoinette said:

“How is she the greatest female entertainer when we have names like Whitney Houston (God rest her soul) and Mariah Carey that far exceed what Beyonce can ever dream of doing on a stage? Smh.”

lindaerckmanalthoff asked:

She’s talented, no doubt. But greatest ever? Not even close in the category. How about Ella Fitzgerald? Barbra Streisand? Celine Dion ? And numerous others.
