The first Kardashian sister, Kourtney, claims that generational trauma is the result of her family’s history of failing relationships.

She shared her thoughts on therapy with Kris Jenner and Khloé Kardashian.

In the season 4 finale of her family’s television program, The Kardashians, the oldest member of the Kardashian-Jenner family is all about having her way.

Kourtney wanted her family to support her therapy sessions. She said, “I didn’t start a self-awareness journey knowing what I was doing. I started therapy through a toxic relationship and then learned so much about myself, about my family, about why I do certain things, about our childhood wounds, about how they show up in intimate relationships, and about generational trauma.”

Khloé noted, “No offense or anything, but we all have f**king problems; just buckle up and let’s go,” expressing skepticism about Kourtney’s therapy talk.

Kourtney, though, isn’t giving up, saying, “There are some patterns that need to be broken. You don’t want to give your children anything.”

Khloé questioned Kourtney about her belief that picking “bad partners” comes from her family.

“I believe it to be generational. It’s from MJ: “Kourtney remarks, alluding to Kris’ mom (her grandmother). “She had three marriages… Everybody has chosen someone; we all believed we could alter various aspects of them, but we are unable to do so.”

“I’m not even thinking about that,” Kris responds, clearly not buying Kourtney’s explanation. I’ve had a wonderful, full life in a billion years; why am I going back to reimagine?”

Kris was constantly interrupting her daughter to comment on her chin dimple and the uneven height of her eyebrows.

Kourtney claimed, “My mom tries to change the subject or not really face these types of topics,” but later she says she thinks “it really does sink in” for Kris, who sends her a meme in reference to Kourtney’s speech. In her candid interview, Khloé jokes, “God bless Kourtney because she’s definitely trying to have this therapy talk, and God bless my mom because she’s definitely not.”

Kourtney added, “I know that people in my family would benefit from therapy,” later in the episode. However, I’m giving up trying to alter other people and instead accepting them as they are. That’s me. This is my journey. That’s your journey; that’s who you are.”

Mason, Penelope, Reign, and Rocky, her first child with her husband Travis, are Kourtney’s four children.
