African-American history teacher Dominque Brown has indicated that she ‘did not resign on her own accord’ concerning the desire to pursue her dreams outside of the classroom.

After seven years of employment, the “teacher of the month” was reportedly fired from Taylor Prep High School in Taylor, Michigan, after it was discovered that she had been pursuing a career in rap under the name, Drippin Honey.

“I had to resign from my job because I’m a rapper. My dismissal was caused by the disapproval of a single parent,” Dominique noted.

She wrote, “When it does not interfere with my ability to fulfill my responsibilities as a teacher, my outside life should not be grounds for termination. Never mind my endeavors; my commitment to education, professionalism, and passion for it have remained constant.”

The teacher also disclosed that, following the filing of a single complaint in October 2023, she was called to several meetings “during five months” to defend her rap career and assert her claim that she has been the victim of discrimination.

Dominque Brown claimed that after being “forced to resign,” she was asked to remove all of her YouTube content, but she resisted and chose to maintain her position.

On the other hand, the school disagrees. An excerpt from the school’s statement on the matter read:

“We are extremely concerned about the false information that former teacher Dominque Brown is sharing with the media and spreading on social media. We normally don’t discuss employee matters in public, but in this instance, we feel compelled to correct the record out of genuine concern for our students’s safety and privacy.

Ms. Brown resigned on her own will from Taylor Prep on January 24; she was not fired.

We recognize the value of people wanting to follow their passions, but that is not the topic at hand. To avoid following a policy intended to safeguard our students, Ms. Brown decided to resign. It is disappointing that she chose to manipulate the circumstances to further her agenda and online persona on social media. We hope that she will respect her former students’ right to privacy and take down any content that includes unapproved photos of small children.”

However, some of her former students can be seen in her music video Drippin 101, which has received 212,120 views at the time of this publication.

She also has less kid-friendly stuff on her YouTube channel, which infuriated parents and led to her being ‘kicked out of school’.
