In the competitive world of fast-food chicken, Popeyes has emerged as a major player, rivaling giants like KFC and Church’s. Unsurprisingly, celebrities like Chris Brown would want a piece of the pie—or in this case, the chicken.

The R&B superstar’s investment in two Popeyes locations seemed like a savvy business move, but it has since plunged him into a legal quagmire.

According to a PEOPLE report, Chris Brown is embroiled in a $2 million lawsuit filed by Popeyes. The suit alleges that Brown has failed to uphold his financial commitments, with an outstanding debt of $22,140,901.74 in unpaid principal and interest. Filed in California, the lawsuit has loomed over Brown for six months, with no resolution in sight.

Recent reports from The Neighborhood Talk and Hollywood Unlocked brought to light the gravity of the situation. Chris Brown now faces a 30-day ultimatum to settle the debt. Failure to do so could result in severe repercussions, including the potential loss of his home, wages, and other assets. These measures are not just hypothetical; the court has made it clear that it could issue a writ of execution or other enforcement actions without further notice.

The filing starkly warns, “Your wages, money, and property could be taken without further warning from the court.” Hollywood Unlocked’s coverage indicates that the amount due has been adjusted to $1,760,654.11, a figure that still represents a significant financial burden for the singer.
