Burna Boy’s City Boys track has over 29 million streams on Audiomack, and its official video also has over 41 million streams on YouTube as of January 9, 2024.

A silver certification in the United Kingdom, therefore, will further indicate how widely the song has been accepted. This new milestone was reached recently after the melody sold 200,000 units.

BPI issued the certificate on January 5, 2024. City Boys is one of the singles on the I Told Them album, which has been nominated for the 66th Grammys in the Best African Music Performance category.

The sound, after its release in August 2023, reached No. 2 on the local Turnable Chart in Nigeria and also peaked at No. 1 on the UK Afrobeats Chart.

It also reached remarkable heights in Canada, France, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Sweden. The song’s anthemic rhythm and the foot-stamping beat seem to have propelled it to these heights.

The certification is one of many Burna Boy songs that have gained popularity and recognition throughout the years.

There is healthy competition between Burna and Davido, who are all claiming the King of Afrobeats title. Perhaps the score will be settled at the Grammys, next month, on February 4, 2024.

Whatever the outcome of the ruling by the judges, the influence of these two giants on the global appreciation of Afrobeats remains undisputed.

City Boy is described as a track that captivates audiences with catchy lyrics and an infectious melody.  The energy behind the sound is felt in the official video, where the actors stamp their feet to the rhythm.

In December last year, Burna Boy’s sixth studio album, Love, Damini, was also certified gold in the United Kingdom, after it sold a total of 100,000 units.

Released in July 2022, the album is known for singles including Last Last, It’s Plenty, Dirty Secret, Common Person, For My Hand, and many others.

Fans, who have spoken highly about the project, congratulated Burna Boy on the recognition, urging him to continue breaking new ground. The certification for City Boys will be another feather in the cap.
