Reigning Artiste of the Year, Black Sherif, is trending with a lyrically-packed single titled Shut Up, which arrived early on Friday, April 5, 2024.

Like all previous releases, fans have responded positively to the tune, with the official visualizer of the song on YouTube reaching over 74,000 views.

The hip-hop rendition is described by some music analysts as an expression of “raw emotions and a powerful message of self-assurance and resilience.”

Along with infectious melodies, the song has Black Sherif delivering punchy lyrics as his translucent voice cuts through the instrumentals.

Shut Up is also considered an ode about the pressures and expectations faced by young people in society, as the singer highlights issues of self-doubt, societal judgment, and the quest for authenticity.

“If I wanna be something, of course I’mma be it…Win-win , there’s no competition…We the voice of the voiceless period…Hate the man don’t’ hate the message,” he sang in different parts of the opening verse.

Shut up is more or less a ‘warning’ to detractors as the singer uses some unfiltered words in parts of the composition, which resonates with music enthusiasts.

The melody would be Black Sherif’s third single released this year after he premiered Zero and January 9th in January and February 2024, respectively.

It would be recalled that Zero, by Black Sherif and British singer Mabel, entered the Afrobeats Chart in the United Kingdom in February this year and ranked seventh on the list at the time of entry.

9th January also made its debut on the Billboard Afrobeats Chart, weeks after it was released, as Blacko continued to release hit records from his repertoire.

Last month, his debut album, The Villain I Never Was released in 2022, reached a total of one billion streams across four streaming platforms.

The breakdown showed that the album had 125 million streams on Spotify, 341 million streams on Boomplay, 102 million on YouTube, and 441 million streams on Audiomack in barely 18 months after it was released.
