Apple Music has announced its end-of-year chart for Sub-Saharan Africa and Grammy-nominated hit song Rush, composed by Ayra Starr is comfortably sitting at the top.

The remarkable feat is not entirely surprising as the single, released in September 2022, has been enjoyed worldwide by music enthusiasts for its soothing vibes and refreshing lyrics.

Prior to this recent acclaim, Rush coming from Ayra Starr’s debut studio album, 19 & Dangerous, had attained many milestones in countries, including Canada, Belgium, Ireland, Hungary, Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.

The Mavin Records signee is competing in the Best African Performance category at the 66th Grammy Awards, set to be announced in February 2024.

Rush went viral on TikTok after it was released, subsequently reaching number 24 in the UK, and charted in the top 40 records in Switzerland and the Netherlands.

In June 2023, the song was certified ‘3× Platinum’ in Nigeria by the TurnTable Certification System of Nigeria (TCSN). It was again certified Platinum, Diamond, and Gold in Canada, France, and the United Kingdom respectively.

The official video for Rush had reached 272 million views on YouTube as of November 28, 2023.

The talented Diva, early in November, embarked on her world tour, rocking huge followers in Manchester, Birmingham, and London with her hit record Sability and others that have got lots of people dancing across the world.

Industry watchers had tipped Ayra Starr for exploits after she announced her presence on the music scene. She has since lived up to expectations, releasing hit records and collaborating with local and international artistes.

Apple Music’s top 100 songs in Sub-Saharan Africa also have songs from Victony, Burna Boy, Labianca, and Tyler among the top five. The list is compiled based on plays from November 1, 2022, to October 31, 2023.
