Streaming platform Audiomack announced its top 50 songs for the year 2023, with several Afrobeats talents well represented.

The list of mix genres has songs including Unvailable by Davido ft Musa Keys; Believe Me by Johnny Drill; and People by Labiaca, reaching numbers 12, 19, and 30, respectively.

Many other artistes featured prominently, but let’s zoom in on the names in the top four.

1. Lonely At The Top – Asake

As expected, Asake’s Lonely At The Top topped the list with over 100 million streams. Since its release in June 2023, the melody has become an anthem for many music lovers due to its immersive rhythm and catchphrases.

Grammy-nominated Asake has performed the song off his Work of Art album at many sold-out concerts in his home country Nigeria and abroad. It is therefore not surprising that the single continues to set new records.

2. Kimi – by Axel Merryl

This Afrobeats tune, released in April 2023, has over one million streams on the platform. Axel Merryl is a Paris-based African musician who became an online star after his videos amassed millions of views on YouTube. The singer and comedian has gained popularity across French-speaking Africa and is known for his Afrobeats compositions.

His music is a fusion of contemporary sounds and rhythms rooted in a rich African heritage.  Merryl’s  music is described as both “enjoyable and socially conscious because it is both danceable and depicts the difficulties and victories of the African people.”

Some of his top compositions on Spotify and Audiomack include Maman, Embrasser La Mariee, Ma Premier fols, among many others.

3. Monaco – Bad Bunny

This song by Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny has close to one million streams on Audiomack.  Monaco was released on October 13, 2023, as the third single from his fifth solo studio album Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana.

The song has appeared on charts in Mexico, Spain, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and other countries. It reached No. 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 2023. It has been certified platinum in Spain after it sold 60,000 units.

4. Dying to be You – Beauty School Dropout

This rock rhythm was released sometime in April 2023 and is described as a single that focuses on mental health awareness.

The song’s official video on YouTube has a little over 40,000 views. The Los Angeles-based rock band is made up of Colie Hutzler, Beepus Burdett, and Bardo, formed in 2022.
