Global Afrobeats icon Rema has announced that he has cancelled all his upcoming shows for December to attend to some delicate personal issues.

According to the Calm Down hitmaker, he cancelled these shows in December to attend to some health issues.

In an Instagram post, Rema explained that it breaks his heart that he has to decide to call off the December shows, but he had to do it to focus on his health.

“I need time to recuperate,” he told fans, promising “2024 we go again,” Rema posted on Instagram to announce the decision on Wednesday.

Rema has had an eventful year this year (2023), and his December show would have been the icing on the cake, but perhaps all the travels, shows, and stage performances have taken a toll on his health.

The 23-year-old, known in real life as Divine Ikubor, recently gave a dramatic performance at London’s 20,000-seater O2 arena, entering on a carousel pony.

His now-cancelled tour dates for December were booked for the Nigerian cities of Abuja, Benin, and Lagos. He was also billed to perform at the Hey Neighbour Festival in South Africa on December 9th, 2023.

However, it is not clear whether fans who have already bought tickets will get a refund or have their tickets carried over to new dates in 2024.

Recently, Rema was in the news when he updated fans about his latest contract with the modern sneaker and clothing brand, Jordan. He has not disclosed details of the signing, but some reports suggest the deal is worth $20 million.

Rema, who described the latest development as an “irony” on his X (Twitter) page, has since received congratulatory messages from followers who say greatness has no age limit.
