All eyes are on the Grammys next year as the top names in world music and other show-stoppers on the African continent compete for plaudits.

The Recording Academy, on Thursday, December 14, 2023, opened the final round of voting, which will continue until January 4, 2024, asking those concerned to vote for their favourites during the period.

Afrobeats giants Burna Boys and Davido have both been nominated in the Best Global Music Performance, Best African Music Performance, and Best Global Music Album categories.

Burna Boy’s Alone and Davido’s Feel are battling for the Best Global Music Performance. Unavailable and City Boys were named in the Best African Performance category, while I Told Them and Timeless are being considered for the Best Global Music Album.

Best African Music Performance is one of the three new categories included in the 2024 Grammys. The other two categories are Best Alternative Jazz Album and Best Pop Dance Recording.

Apart from these top two, Amapiano by Asake & Olamide; Rush by Ayra Starr, and the recently trending Water by Tyla have also made it into the Best African Performance Category.

Organiser on Thursday also announced award-winning Actor and Comedian, Trevor Noah as the host of the show next year. It will be the fourth consecutive time South Africa will be hosting the show.

Trevor is praised for his ability to blend humour with his deep appreciation of music. “His return is a testament to his impact and popularity in the role,” the Recording Academy said.

“Noah’s tenure as the GRAMMYs host has been marked by memorable performances, unexpected collaborations, and a celebration of musical diversity and excellence.

“At the 2024 GRAMMYs, fans can look forward to another evening of spectacular performances and awards, guided by Trevor Noah’s charisma and skill,” it added.
