Fans of the American Music Awards (AMAs) should lace their boots for another enthralling edition scheduled for Sunday, October 6 this year.

Unlike the previous edition, which was live on ABC television channel, the organizers said this year’s show would rather be available on CBS and the streaming platform, Paramount+.

Officials made the announcement on Friday, April 2, indicating that the AMAs would be produced by Dick Clark Productions (DCP).

Nominations for the awards are said to be informed by “key fan interactions as reflected on the Billboard Charts.” Factors such as streaming, album sales, song sales, and radio airplay will be considered.

The ceremony, which has been around for decades, was created as a fan-based alternative to the Grammy Awards. Award categories this year have been extended to include Afrobeats. It is, however, unclear how soon nominations will be announced.

“The show in the first five years had a tight focus on three broad genres: pop/rock, soul/R&B, and country. It now recognizes far more genres, including hip-hop, Latin, inspirational, gospel, Afrobeats and K-pop,” the organizers said.

The AMAs will happen about a month after the MTV Music Awards, which was announced early this week to take place at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, on September 10.

Like the AMAs, the MTV Awards is one of the major industry ceremonies that has been a huge attraction for many music enthusiasts.

“We’re excited to bring this year’s VMAs to UBS Arena, one of the country’s newest and most cutting-edge venues,” Bruce Gillmer, President of Music and other related portfolios at Paramount+, said when he made the announcement this week.

“Celebrating one of music’s biggest nights with the incredible, robust New York area fans is something we’ve been looking forward to since the moment last year’s show ended…We are excited to welcome back the MTV Video Music Awards to New York State,” Kathy Hochul, New York Governor, added in a statement.

With an exciting programme line-up, the MTV show, according to organisers, will be available in more than 150 countries and territories across MTV’s linear and digital platforms.
