In an apparent show of comradery, Afrobeats giant Burna Boy has extended felicitations to other African finalists named for the 2024 Grammy Awards.

He deemed it a great honor to be nominated in three different categories alongside other talented acts, including Davido, Tyla, and Ayra Starr who made their debuts.

The Recording Academy on Friday, November 10, dropped the list of final nominees in various music categories ahead of the awards scheduled for February next year.

Details of the announcement saw Burna Boy and Davido going head-to-head in the Best Global Music Performance, Best African Music Performance, and Best Global Music Album categories.

Burna Boy has been a three-time nominee at the Grammys, winning the Best Global Music Album For his Twice As Tall album in 2021.

With this feat, some observers believe the Common Person originator has an upper hand going into the 2024 contest.

All other nominees in the same category as Burna were appearing for the first time, and perhaps this explains Burna Boy’s congratulatory message, considering himself an ‘experienced nominee’ and an accomplished musician in his own right.

He took to his X (Twitter) account to commend his competitors and once again project his I Told Them album which has been nominated.

“Once more, my deepest gratitude to the Grammy Academy for this incredible honour. A HUGE congrats to the talented African artists who were nominated alongside me. The true win lies in sharing these moments with you all at my shows and expressing it through my music. #ITOLDTHEM,” he wrote.

Already, there seems to be a healthy contest between Burna Boy and Davido over who indeed rules the world of Afrobeats, and fans hope that the score may be settled with the outcome of the 2024 Grammys in the keenly contested categories.

Burna Boy’s Alone and Davido’s Feel are battling for the Best Global Music Performance. Unavailable and City Boys were named in the Best African Performance category, while I Told Them and Timeless are being considered for the Best Global Music Album.

Apart from these top two, Amapiano by ASAKE & Olamide; Rush by Ayra Starr and the recently trending Water by Tyla have also made it into the Best African Performance Category.

Final Round Voting will take place from December 14, 2023, to January 4, 2024, before the winners will be announced on February 4, 2023.

The ceremony will take place at Arena in Los Angeles, will be live on CBS Television Network, and will stream on Paramount+.

Best African Music Performance is one of the three new categories included in the 2024 Grammys. The other two categories are Best Alternative Jazz Album and Best Pop Dance Recording.
