Elon Musk, owner of the X (Twitter) platform, threw a jab at his competitor, Mark Zuckerberg, when Facebook was facing a downtime on Tuesday, March 4, 2024.
Users worldwide, on Tuesday, complained that they were unable to log in to Facebook for about two hours. They reported error messages and were unable to refresh their feeds as usual.
According to other media networks, several employees at Meta also reported they were unable to log in to their internal work systems, which left them “wondering if they were laid off.”
The outage was said to have affected many countries and made many users turn to X (Twitter) to express their frustration, which got the multi-billionaire to jump into the fray.
“If you’re reading this post, it’s because our servers are working,” Elon Musk wrote on Tuesday in a subtle jab at the Facebook team.

Meta, owners of Facebook, had since resolved the technical challenge that affected Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram. It has also apologised to users affected by the situation.
Meta’s platforms are popular among users worldwide. Facebook alone has three billion active monthly users, while Instagram is reported to hit 1.4 billion users worldwide later this year. WhatsApp, another platform owned by Meta, was not affected by Tuesday’s downtime, which was not the first occurrence.
In 2021, Mark Zuckerberg apologised for a similar disruption when services went off for about six hours.
