Canadian rapper Drake has decided to vie for the Grammy Awards for 2024 after a short boycott of the ceremony.

The rapper who had openly criticized the prestigious awards show in 2020, is back in the game. He criticized after the omission of The Weeknd’s After Hours album from the 2020 nominations.

Billboard reports that Drake has submitted a range of songs for consideration at the 2024 Grammy Awards, which will take place next year. Among the submissions, Drake has offered his joint album with 21 Savage, Her Loss for evaluation in various categories.

This move signifies a change of heart from the rapper, who took a stance against the Grammys just two years prior.

Drake’s chances for 2024 Grammys are bright

Two of Drake’s most notable tracks, Rich Flex and Spin Bout U have been put forth for consideration in several key categories. These categories include Record of the Year, and Song of the Year (for both tracks). He put up Rich Flex for Best Rap Performance Best Rap Song. Spin Bout U will also compete in the Best Melodic Rap category.

In addition, Drake’s collaborations with fellow artistes have the potential to earn him even more nominations at the 2024 Grammy Awards. His work on Travis Scott’s Meltdown and Young Thug’s Oh U Want have been submitted for evaluation in both the Rap Song and Best Rap Performance categories. These collaborations are highly anticipated and could further solidify Drake’s presence at the Grammy Awards.

Drake’s return to the Grammy Awards after his public criticism reflects his desire to compete again at the highest level. The omission of The Weeknd’s “After Hours” album from the 2020 nominations sparked widespread debate. Many artistes, including Drake, questioned the transparency and fairness of the selection. Drake decided to officially pull out from being nominated at the awards scheme in 2022. With Drake’s reentry into the Grammy submissions, it seems that he is willing to give the awards show another chance.
