2023 has not been a good year for some celebrity couples. The year has been filled with surprise celebrity breakups which left fans in tears or excited for what would unfold.

Here are the ten most surprising celebrity breakups of 2023 – let’s hope the couple who have gone their separate ways find what they want in 2024.

Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert

After seven years of marriage and two children together, the couple is divorcing. Taylor’s divorce filing was made public recently; it was submitted back in January.

Taye Diggs and Apryl Jones

Diggs and Jones never made it official that they were over, but after being the go-to celebrity pair for smiles and heartfelt humor, things quickly went silent. Other than co-starring in a Peacock film, they haven’t been spotted together in public since early this year.

Deion Sanders and Tracey Edmonds

The couple recently announced that they were divorcing after more than ten years together. “To everyone who has demonstrated love, and support for us, we have decided with love in our hearts, respect for one another, and gratitude for the time we’ve shared that we should go forward in life as friends”, they said in their statement.

Mariama Diallo and Broderick Hunter

Although nothing was formally announced, the couple, who declared their engagement in November 2022, quietly parted ways this year. They no longer share pictures of each other on social media, and Mariama hasn’t been seen wearing her ring either. Furthermore, fans discovered in the summer that they had deleted photos they took together and unfollowed each other on social media.

Tina Knowles and Richard Lawson

Citing irreconcilable differences, Ms. Tina filed for divorce from her second husband, actor Richard Lawson, in July, resulting in her taking off her ring while she was traveling the globe with Beyoncé on the Renaissance Tour.

Jeezy and Jeannie Mai

Following a two-year marriage that went viral on social media, Jeezy shocked everyone in September by calling it quits on his union with Jeannie Mai. He mentioned that the decision to end things wasn’t made in haste. The two have a daughter together named Monaco. The couple’s breakup was a shocker making it one of the most surprising breakups of 2023.

Jodie Turner-Smith and Joshua Jackson

Jodie Turner-Smith filed for divorce from Joshua Jackson in October, citing “irreconcilable differences.” This reportedly left the When They See Us actor “heartbroken”, but he was soon spotted out and about with Lupita Nyong’o. The Black Panther actress and Dawson’s Creek star were photographed walking hand-in-hand at Joshua Tree National Park shortly after being spotted leaving LA’s Erewhon Market together in a Tesla the day before. They also attended Janelle Monáe’s The Age of Pleasure Tour together with a group of friends.

Offset and Cardi B

Cardi B confirmed her split from Offset during an Instagram Live session on December 11. The announcement came shortly after the former Migos member was accused by rapper Blueface of sleeping with his ex, Chrisean Rock. The couple married in 2017 and share two children, daughter Kulture, 5, and son Wave, 2.

Keke Palmer and Darius Jackson

After welcoming their son, Leodis, together in February, Keke Palmer and Darius Jackson seemed to be in a great place. Jackson’s reaction to Palmer’s choice of outfit for an Usher concert, however, stirred public discourse surrounding the state of their relationship, with Palmer imploring the public to “mind their business” regarding the relationship. Unfortunately, she would later accuse Jackson of mental and physical abuse, which he “absolutely denies.”

Khadijah Haqq and Bobby McCray

After 13 years of marriage, actress Khadijah Haqq announced in August that she and her husband, former NFL player Bobby McCray, were divorcing. Together, the couple has three kids.
