Black Coffee, a renowned DJ and songwriter, has been injured in a serious travel accident in Argentina.

According to a statement sent on the artist’s Instagram account on Wednesday, January 10, the incident occurred “on a flight en route to his scheduled show in Mar Del Plata.” The incident caused unexpected complications and left him with minor injuries.

“We can confirm that he is receiving the best possible medical attention and is surrounded by a supportive family and team,” the statement continues. “In respect of his privacy, we kindly request understanding and patience from the media and his fans.”

The award-winning music producer was due to perform at the nightclub Mute in Mar del Plata, a seaside resort in Argentina’s Buenos Aires region.

“Despite the challenges presented, Black Coffee is optimistic and recovering well! He looks forward to being back with you all very soon,” the statement said.

Black Coffee won the 2022 Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Music for his album Subconsciously, making him the first South African musician to do so. Black Coffee, born Nkosinathi Innocent Sizwe Maphumulo, has been a fixture of the worldwide electronic industry for almost two decades, flying the flags for both house music and his own South Africa’s booming electronic sector. He headlined a gig at Madison Square Garden in October.
