Angelique Kidjo Appreciates Sydney Fans After Sold Out Concert

As part of activities to mark 40 years in the music industry, five-time Grammy Award-winner and African legend, Angélique Kidjo, has been on a series of tours as part of activities marking her 40th anniversary in music.

She has performed in Hong Kong and New Zealand, and recently showed up at the Sydney Opera House in Australia, thanking her fans after a sold-out concert.

The Wombolombo hitmaker has performances scheduled until November 2, 2024. Her next stop will be Auckland Town Hall-Great Hall in New Zealand on March 9, 20224.

 Last November, she was at a similar concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The concert formed part of the EFG London Jazz Festival, which celebrates several Grammy winner who has been described as ‘Africa’s Premier Diva.’

 The anniversary concert has the tagline: 40 years of music and activism. The veteran musician’s music video was recently featured on Davido’s Na Money music video, which attracted great feedback when it premiered.

She also brought her influence to Stonebwoy’s Manodzi, a song on the 5th Dimension album. In 2021, Angélique Kidjo was listed among TIME Magazine’s 100 most influential people worldwide.

As a performer, the Agolo singer’s striking voice, stage presence, and fluency in multiple cultures and languages have won the respect of her peers and expanded her following across national borders.

She has much recognition, including on the BBC’s list of Africa’s 50 most iconic figures. In 2011, The Guardian again named her one of their Top 100 Most Inspiring Women in the World.

Throughout her career, she has collaborated with high-profile artists such as Sting, Philip Glass, Carlos Santana, Burna Boy, Alicia Keys, Joss Stone, and Peter Gabriel, among many others.

Kidjo, also the recipient of the 2023 prestigious Polar Music Prize, has been celebrated for merging the West African traditions of her childhood with American R&B, funk, and jazz, alongside influences from Europe and Latin America.
