Afrobeats: What Davido Said About Nigerian Singer Rema’s Impact In America

Afrobeats music is making waves across the world and stakeholders are excited. One of the stalwarts of the genre, Davido, recently spoke about these achievements and singled out his younger colleague, Rema.

In an interview with The Kris Fade Show in the United Arab Emirates, Davido praised the growth Rema in the music industry pointing to the young aristes impact on the American music scene.

According to him, Rema who is the winner of the maiden Afrobeats category at MTV EMAs, has one of the top 5 records in America, and he also happens to be the only Nigerian who has remained consistent for months.

“Years ago, I never thought a Nigerian artist would have a Top 5 record in America. Rema has had Top 5 records in America for the past eight months, non-shaken,” Davido said.

The Nigerian revealed that he is always pleased in seeing artists like Rema making waves all over the world and pushing Afrobeats to the forefront.

In other news, Nigerian Afrobeats singer Burna Boy, is seeking to consolidate the gains he has made with his new album, I Told Them…

Burna Boy who became the first-ever international Afrobeats artiste to top the UK Albums Chart – a feat he achieved in September–, has announced a tour to promote the album.

Dubbed the I Told Them…Tour, the Live Nation-produced series of concerts will kickstart on November 3, 2023, a flier shared on his official Instagram page indicated.

Burna Boy headlines 2023 AfroNation festival in Nigeria

The two-month break in the tour schedule was not explained but it is understood that Burna Boy will be attending to other engagements within that period.

Already, organizers of Afrobeats music festival, Afro Nation, have announced the African Giant, as some fans call him, as the main star for the December 19-20 event to be held in Lagos.

He will be joined by Nigerian compatriots Seyi Vibez, Flavour, British rapper JHus, and Ghana’s Black Sherif as the first set of artistes billed to thrill Afrobeats lovers.

Meanwhile, Afrobeats artistes will have their shine at the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA). The genre has been added as one of the categories for prestigious awards for the first time.

Organizers of the prestigious event announced the introduction of Afrobeats as they released nominations for the awards on Wednesday.

The nominees in the maiden edition of the category are French superstar, Aya Nakamura, and Nigerian singers, Asake, Arya Starr, Burna Boy, Davido and Rema.

The 2023 MTV EMA will be held on November 5 and will be broadcast live to more than 150 countries from the Paris Nord.
