Following the release of Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter on Wednesday, singer Erykah Badu caught attention by accusing the former of ‘stealing’ her iconic cover style for the upcoming Act II: Cowboy Carter album.

The image of the limited edition cover art for Beyoncé’s upcoming album features the singer holding a cigar and posing with her floor-length braids partially covering one breast, along with red, white, and beige-colored beads forming manicured bangs. The singer was shown in the picture naked, save for a sash that read “Act II BEYONCÉ,” a reference to her mother Tina Knowles’ maiden name.

Following this, another popular Texan, Erykah Badu, posted the image to her Instagram stories with the remark “Hmmmm.”

The legendary singer has a history of seeming to disparage her fellow singers. She captioned a photo she posted on Instagram stories last summer of the Formation singer wearing a metallic wide-brimmed hat, saying, “Hmm, I guess I’m everybody’s stylist.”

Numerous social media users drew attention to some other celebrities who have sported the look, such as Solange, Patrice Rushen, SZA, and Mary Jane Girls member Joanne “JoJo” McDuffie.

She said, “Y’all were waiting on me, though,” and included a laughing emoji.

The Window Seat singer was however overrun by the beehive, so she called Beyoncé’s husband for assistance.

“To Jay Z.” Jay, say something. She tweeted, “You are gone; let this woman and these bees do this to me.”

Some fans however were quick to jump in to defend Badu.

“Why do people always have negative thoughts? Perhaps @erykahbadu is saying, “Twinning, there’s no shade.” stated @LegacyCompressions.

Another fan wrote: “Badu also added her two cents, but she didn’t elaborate on the significance of what she had written.”

However, it’s unclear if Badu is genuinely upset with the queen of the hive or if she’s just making jokes about her on the internet.
